The 15th Annual Conference of the Australian Nurses' Cardiovascular and Hypertension Association Inc (ANCHA) for 2011 will be held in Perth as part of the High Blood pressure Research Council of Australia's scientific meeting - which runs from December 7 - 9.

Time: Registration opens at 8.00am, with the conference from 8.30am till 5.00pm

Professor Anne Barden
Pregnancy and long-term cardiovascular risk

 

Anne Barden is a research scientist in the School of Medicine & Pharmacology at the University of Western Australia. She is based at Royal Perth hospital and her main areas of research involve (a) the study of the effects of diet, lifestyle and genetic background on arachidonic acid metabolism in relation to hypertension and cardiovascular disease; and (b) the study of factors involved in the pathogenesis of complicated pregnancies and their effects on long-term cardiovascular risk. She has held a number of grants examining the role of lipids, oxidative stress, and markers of endothelial function in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia. Her most recent work in this area relates to identifying factors in complicated pregnancies that predict future cardiovascular risk, Professor Barden holds grants from the NH&MRC and National Heart Foundation.

 

Professor Jonathan Hodgson
Functional foods for lowering blood pressure

 

Jonathan Hodgson is a Senior Research Fellow of the National Health & Medical Research Council of Australia. He currently works at the University of Western Australia within the School of Medicine and Pharmacology located at Royal Perth Hospital. Dr Hodgson’s research focuses on the role of diet in cardiovascular disease prevention. He has a range of research interests including investigating the role that dietary polyphenols play in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease; studying the effects of dietary macronutrients on measurements related to heart health; and exploring the potential for grain legumes to benefit obesity, diabetes and blood pressure.
